One thing we all have to know is how to excel in your revenue metric. Our guest this week on the Catapulting Commission Podcast is absolutely on fire and knows how to maximize profit. John Lee Dumas is the founder and host of the award-winning podcast, Entrepreneurs on Fire. Past guests include Tony Robbins, Barbara Corcoran, and Gary Vaynerchuk. With over 1 million monthly listens and over 100 million total listens of his 3000+ episodes, JLD is spreading entrepreneurial FIRE on a global scale.
First, JLD breaks down the number one reason entrepreneurs fail at such a high rate and at every level. The truth is, you’re going to fail if you’re a pale imitation of someone else. Who wants weak knock-offs of someone else? However, you ARE unique and there is a BIG IDEA inside of you that is YOURS. It’s there, you just have to identify and evoke it. Someone can motivate you to start your journey, but you have to be the best version of yourself, you can’t be the next someone else. People want the best possible version of you. If you become the best solution in your zone of fire, you’re going to win.
When we think about ‘big ideas’ it’s important to know that passion is part of the equation, but it’s only half of the story. You can be excited about something, but how does it solve a problem for someone else? If it doesn’t, it’s a hobby. What you need along with your passion is your expertise, skills, and value that you can add to the world. Your passions need to comingle with your expertise. No one is going to care what you’re doing unless you’re solving a problem for them. In the same way, if you have the expertise and no passion, you’ll fizzle out, and people will recognize that you have no spark in your work.
John Lee is the author of the must-read book, The Common Path to Uncommon Success: A Roadmap to Financial Freedom and Fulfillment. In the book, there’s a 17-step framework to building success through uncommon uniqueness. It’s a culmination of 3,000 successful entrepreneurs sharing their most valuable lessons. JLD’s favorite is step 7. It’s “Design your content production plan.” John Lee attributes this step to his massive successes and profits. Chances are, your content production plan isn’t so great. But, you can (and have to) improve! This chapter can help you change your life.
If you have a voice, a message, or a mission that you want to share with the world, this is how you boost success. If not, then maybe it isn’t--and that’s okay. For those who ask “why me?” JLD reminds us that 1. You aren’t special until you are special. And 2. You become special when you solve a very real problem in the best possible way. If you can become the #1 solution to a real problem, then you win. It’s going to take you finding your big idea and filling a void that has not been filled.
So, what do people really want? It’s okay to want different things, but at the core of everyone, we want three things: do what we want to do, where we want to do it, with who we want to do it with. If you have that freedom, what else is there? There may be a fear of the hurdle between you and that--it’s okay, that’s normal, you’re a human. Understand that you have to find the right mentor--someone who is currently where you want to be. Additionally, join or create a mastermind. Include 3 or 4 peers--never more, never less--and follow the format JLD outlines in his book. If you’re in the right mastermind, it’ll grow with you and you’re supporting each other.
